Core Concepts of Workday...

  • Supervisory Organizations: The foundation of Workday HCM. This type of organization groups workers into a management hierarchy.
Ex:An organization for a group of Workers that report directly to one Manager.
Department;7554xxxx,ABC Company!
  • Staffind Models: They define how jobs and positions are created and filled in a supervisory organization.
  • Job Profiles: They are generic features and characteristics of a job and of a position that is built off that profile.
Ex.: An employer creates a job profile for many reasons. On the organizational side, the employer must analyze the job that a person will perform, including essential duties, which are performed often, and nonessential duties. These duties will be used to calculate the amount of pay, the job title, the salary or hourly designation and the position on the organizational chart. Managers assist the HR department with updating job profiles when positions must be advertised and filled. Each duty is written as a statement of what outputs a candidate must produce.

  • Job Family: Abroad grouping of jobs that perform similar functions.                      Ex:Job families include information services, nursing,library/museum,services, accounting/finance.
  • Compensation: The umbrella term for compensation packages,grades,grade profiles and plans.
  • Compensation Plan:A component of pay that you use to assign monetary amounts to a worker’s pay.
  • Compensation Package :A grouping of compensation guidelines and Compensation Plans that comprise all of the elements of Worker compensation. Ex:All Workers are assigned the ABC Company Compensation Package.
  • Compensation Grade/Profile: Compensation Grade is assigned to a job profile based on the level of responsibilities  performed by an incumbent of the job profile. Pay ranges are defined in compensation grade profile.


  • Security: A security group is a collection of users or a collection of objects that are related to users. Allowing a security group access to a securable item in a security policy grants access to the users associated with the security group.
  • Business process: A series of activities when linked together achieve a desired business objective.Activities include tasks, To Do’s, approvals and upload of documents.Business Process Conditional Rule - A condition that defines routing of a business process.

      You make learning and reading addictive. All eyes fixed on you. Thank you being such a good and trust worthy guide.

      I guess you can't.

      we can schedule it for On the day of month and value as 1.

      Then it willl run on every month day 1.

      But you need to run on 15th also.

      So create one more alert which is as same as Workday tutorial in USA existing alert and schedule it on 15th.

    Thanks for making that available.     I've been using your help to build my own POC and will publish the steps in another blog soon.

    I am struggling to import the attendance data for the employees that are in a sql server database into the application (Oracle E-Business Suite R12) if anyone has done such a thing please guide to a material or guidelines to implement such a solution, here is the client requirement:
    - the attendance (punch in /out) data stored in a sql server database and the company want to integrate it with oracle application Self-Service in particular so any employee can see his attendance . we already established a database link between the 2 systems but i want a verified solution that has been done before.
    Excellent tutorials - very easy to understand with all the details. I hope you will continue to provide more such tutorials.

    Hi There,

    Thank you for making your blogs an embodiment of perfection and simplicity. You make everything so easy to follow.

    I have the following scenario - I run concurrent with host program which is shell script, from this scrip I call unnamed pl/sql block. In side this block I run pl/sql procedure. I want to make output of this procedure be my conccurrent output.
    I use fnd_file.put(apps.fnd_file.output, <...>)
    with setting dir and file_name like this
    fnd_file.put_names(p_out => l_out, p_dir => l_dir, p_log => l_log);
    dir and file name I take from fnd_concurrent_requests. But it doesn't work, I get error
    ORA-20100: ORA-20100: Temporary file creation for FND_FILE failed.
    Directory &FILE_DIR is invalid, contact your system administrator.
    Action: Check that the directory is a valid directory with write permissions on
    the database server node and is listed under utl_file_dir para
    So the question is - how to make it? Is there workaround?

    Gratitude for putting up this prolific article! You truly make everything a cake walk. Genuinely good stuff, saving time and energy.


    I just tried your script and it works fine on my test instance, which is an EBS R12.1.3 Vision instance.

    If I recall from one of your previous posts, you're on R11. Unfortunately, I don't have such an instance to check.

    From your side, could you verify (from the article you picked up this script) if it's for R11 or supposed to work on both.

    What's your instance like - clean instance (freshly installed) or Vision ? Suppose you're running script connected as "apps" user.

    If it's a clean instance, Has HR been setup ? By that I mean, have the basic setups been done. Before you can create employees, there are a certain number of setups which need to be done (refer to HCM Implementation Guide). workday certification






    It was cool to see your article pop up in my google search for the process yesterday. Great Guide.

Workday is a forerunner in SAAS business applications . It can easily integrate extensive range of SAAS solutions .It became widespread because of its fast implementation and ease of use. Workday has grown rapidly and is fully a cloud service .
